The Portuguese Calçada Knows You
Mariana Arroja
The Portuguese Calçada are pavements that are considered national heritage. However, there are increasingly fewer calçada stonemason masters in the country. In 2022, Mariana Arroja, singer & songwriter, wrote a song inspired by the Portuguese Calçada and decided to explore this topic further. On her journey, she met several calçada stonemasons, their families, and their stories. These are the stories of the history of Portugal through stone art that is disappearing.
